Culture for Children celebrates Giving Tuesday!

Support our action for children in hospitals

20.11.2023

On this day dedicated to generosity, commitment and solidarity, we are highlighting our action for children in hospitals, for whom we adapt our programmes to the most specific situations, right up to the child's bedside.

Every year, 600 children in hospital take part in our programmes. Our work ensures that all children have cultural rights, whatever their personal situation. Artistic and cultural education in hospital not only helps them to continue learning, it also offers them an opportunity to share and escape, which is very important in softening their stay and breaking their isolation.

A NEW PROJECT: VIRTUAL REALITY IN HOSPITAL

To bring art to the hospital, Culture for Children has designed a project enabling children who are unable to leave hospital to visit an immersive exhibition using virtual reality. Thanks to this technology, we are able to bring art to the bedside of children hospitalised in critical care (oncology, transplant and palliative care departments). A mediator will be present at the children's bedside in a minimum of two sessions, alternating viewing of the exhibition with the headset and activities involving the transmission of knowledge and artistic practice.

Our project has already been tested in the wards of the Hôpital Necker-Enfants Malades in Paris, and the results are absolutely convincing: all the children were absolutely won over! The immersive experience worked perfectly, and the children saw themselves as much in the exhibition as in their own future. We're continuing to work closely with doctors, carers and teachers to tailor the programme to each child's individual state of health.

For this first phase, we are offering these children the chance to visit the Destination Cosmos exhibition. The ultimate challenge, as if they were going to the Atelier des Lumières in Paris. This immersive exhibition takes them on a journey into space, immersing them in a maze of stars, planets and nebulae, made possible thanks to the collaboration of the CNES - Centre national d'études spatiales, a partner in the development of the scientific content of the project.

OUR PARTNERS

Our project will be implemented in the paediatric and intensive care departments (oncology, transplant, palliative care) of our partners in hospitals in Paris, Marseille, Bordeaux, Montpellier and Aix-en-Provence. Whenever possible, children and their families are welcomed at our heritage sites and immersive arts centres.
